1. Initial Setup
- Install the Detex ProxiPen / TopGuard Patrol software on your computer.
- Connect the ProxiPen reader to the computer as instructed in the software or manual.
- Install the battery in the ProxiPen. Tighten the battery cap securely, but do not overtighten.
2. Plan Your Station Layout
- On a sheet of paper, draw a map of all locations where the station tags will be mounted.
- Assign each station a number on the map.
- At the top of the sheet, write the names of all patrol officers.
- Also at the top, list the names of the tours (for example: Tour 1, Tour 2, etc.).
- At the bottom of the sheet, or on a separate sheet, list stations numbered 1–25.
3. Prepare the Tags
- On your desk, separate the largest tags and place red stickers on them.
- Separate the 30 mm tags and place the remaining stickers on them.
- On the large tags, write the letters A, B, C, D, and E. These will typically be used as key control or tour-related tags.
- On the small tags, write the numbers 1–25 for use as station checkpoints.
- Important: Do not scan any tags yet.
4. Create Tours and Main Tags in the Software
- Open the ProxiPen / TopGuard Patrol software and go to the tour or configuration section.
- Define each tour (for example: Tour 1, Tour 2, etc.). [web:34][web:35]
- Using the ProxiPen, scan each large tag (A, B, C, D, E) as you assign them to the system.
- Place the ProxiPen in the download/transfer unit (DTU) and upload the reads into the software.
- In the software, replace the generic tag IDs (A, B, C, D, E) with meaningful names that match your map or tour plan.
5. Program Station Tags and Patrolmen
- Using the ProxiPen, scan the smaller station tags in order from 1 to 25.
- Reserve tags 1–4 for patrolmen names if you want to assign specific personnel tags.
- Place the ProxiPen in the DTU and upload the reads into the software.
- In the software, rename each tag to match your station list and, if used, assign patrolmen names to tags 1–4.
6. Program Tour Start Tags
- Scan the tour tags that will act as the start points for each tour (for example, one of the large tags). [web:34][web:35]
- Upload the reads into the software using the DTU.
7. Final Check
- Verify that all stations, personnel, and tours are correctly named and assigned in the software.
- Mount the tags in their physical locations according to your map.
- Perform a test tour by scanning a personnel tag (if used), the tour start tag, and then each station in order to confirm proper recording.
