Black is the stock color, we ship black.  However, Purple lasts longer, and if you state "Purple Ribbon" in the comments section of the checkout, we will ship Purple.

You can use a one color MJR7000 ribbon in the MJR8000.  The only reason there is a two color ribbon for the MJR8000's is that the MJR8000 includes a feature that will print RED at certain times of the day - to identify late arrivals and/or early departures.  Late IN, Early OUT.   One color ribbons last longer.

MJR8000 example (it is customizable): 
Prints black up until 8:00AM, Red from 8:01 until 8:20
Prints red from 11:24AM until 11:29AM   and from 4:24PM until 4:29PM
